The present
simple is formed using the base form
except in third person singular.
In order to form the third person singular we will add an –s or –es to the base form:
First and second person of singular and plural
Third person of plural
I/you/we/they
look, worry, teach.
Third person singular
formation:
In most of verbs we will add –s to
the base form.
He/she/it looks
When the base form ends with “y”: we will use an “I” instead of “y” and add “es”:
He/she/it worries
In
verbs ending with s, z, ch, sh or x: we
will add “es” to the base form.
He/she/it
teaches.
In a reduced
number of verbs ending with –s, we can find variations of
the aforementioned rules in which the –s
can be doubled:
He bias(s)es against lawyers.
The driver bus(s)es children from school.
She focus(s)es most of time on finding a
new job.
In addition, there are other special cases which must
be fully memorised ( as they do not follow at all any specific rule ):
To be To
do
I am I/you/we/they
do
He/she/it is he/she/it
does
You/we/they are
To say To
have

say I/you/we/they
have

has
